Baseball, softball programs host golf tournament
CHICKASHA – The Drover baseball and softball programs are hosting a fundraising golf tournament on Aug. 28.
The tournament will be during the programs’ first alumni weekend but will be open to everyone. Participants can work in four-person teams during the scramble.
Softball Coach Jenn White-Cody said the program did a similar tournament last year.
“It was fun,” she said. “It is something that brings recognition to our programs.”
Baseball Coach Mike Ross said the event is something he has wanted to do for a while.
“It’s a good chance for the baseball and softball team to (work together) for a common goal,” Ross said. “We’re just excited about it.”
Together, the Drover softball and baseball teams are raising money to build an indoor hitting facility, Cody said. The coaches hope to get enough money to begin construction late this year or early next year, Cody said.
The facility has been quoted at between $500,000 and $600,000, Ross said, but an exact cost has not yet been determined.
Registration for the golf scramble, which also includes breakfast and lunch, is $275 for a four-person team before July 20. Late registration will be $325.
The tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. at River Bend Golf Club in Chickasha.
