Drovers fly over the Eagles
CHICKASHA – Both Drover teams soared past the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in Friday afternoon games at Drover Pitch.
The women entered halftime down 1-0 but rallied with a tying unassisted goal by Jordyn Yates. The game was forced into overtime, and USAO freshman Andrea Geiger found Calli Cooper for a goal just minutes into the first overtime.
Addie Tipton had two saves in the game and recorded her eighth win of the season.
The Drover men had no problem getting started as Graham Hunter knocked USAO’s first goal in just two and a half minutes off an assist by Perry Sansford. Hunter also had a second goal, assisted by Nicolas Alberto, in the second half.
USAO scored two more goals — knocked in by Dusan Rasovic and Niall Crick, who also had the assist in Rasvoic’s goal — before the first half was over.
Late in the game, USAO could not hold off a goal by OC, but promptly responded with the team’s fifth and final goal of the game, scored by Jean Gnapi off and assist by Alex Rubio.
Bryan Byars had one save in the game and recorded with sixth win of the season.
The wins bring the women to an 8-1 overall and 3-1 conference record, and the men to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
The teams play Lindenwood Univeristy at Rogers State on Sunday before returning home for a four-game home stand starting at 1 and 3 p.m. Tuesday against Mid-America Christian.
USAO soccer’s first Pink Game, where the players and fans will wear pink for cancer awareness, will be Oct. 15 against Lubbock Christian.
